But that’s a chocolate brownie! you might say.  Why does this post title suggest beans? you might ask.

The answer? I baked these brownies from a recipe Heidi Swanson posted for black bean brownies.  They are were delicious.  Chocalatey and moist with the occasional surprise crunch of crushed walnuts.  And, incredibly, made with black beans.  You can even see one of the little guys, right on the corner there.  Hey little guy!

I couldn’t believe it, but they were not at all wierd.  Not in the slightest.  They had a deeply rich flavor and a beautiful mouth feel, were everything a brownie should be and nothing that it shouldn’t.  I wouldn’t have known they were made from anything but what goes into your everyday brownie had I not been the one to assemble them.  Yet they have two whole cups of black beans in them.  No flour, and no sugar.  They are sweetened with honey and made to taste of rich, dark chocolate from… rich, dark chocolate.
